The Learning Studio
My Learning Studio incorporates a secure facility for educating children in a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment. It is a fun place to be; bright, light and airy, an inviting, relaxing and inspiring work area.
French and stable doors open onto a visually exciting, enclosed courtyard garden where the children can work in the summer under large awnings and parasols. Inside the studio is an inviting work area with table and chairs, large, cosy cushions for floor work, a piano and keyboard and a variety of further musical instruments.
For computer work there is a both a large flat screen monitor and a laptop, together with a wide choice of up-to-date, innovative and challenging software and learning materials. The Learning Studio is a fun and focused environment from where to build a strong foundation, where a child can move forward with strength and confidence.
My Studio offers a relaxing, non-judgmental environment in which children learn to bond, to trust, where I foster a sense of encouragement and consciousness; their ‘safety net’ they can carry with them into other environments, including their school and home. The children learn to self-correct, to respect constructive criticism, to strengthen their weaknesses and realise their strengths and talents.
A happy environment, a sympathetic approach, humour, laughter and fun…through all of this there is a serious side to our work and a love of learning is borne.Although your child’s specific needs may result in a focus on certain areas of work, areas covered include:
• English: including: language, grammar,
vocabulary, thesaurus, dictionary
• Reading, writing and spelling;
• Creative story writing, mind mapping,
comprehension
• Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning;
• Maths;
• Memory games, mind games, brain gym
In addition to
multi-sensory tools, I use a library of sample papers, software programmes,
books and teaching games. The younger
children use a larger touch keyboard together with a mini mouse. So many children benefit from the skill of
touch typing, an invaluable skill for children today, releasing their
inhibitions and inspiring confidence and creativity. It can improve handwriting skills, improve
concentration and focus, and most of all, it’s fun! Children can learn touch
typing from the age of six years. It is particularly beneficial for children
with specific needs to learn typing skills. (See Special Needs)
