‘In the years I have known her in my professional capacity, Judi's innovative and inspiring lessons have met with repeated approval from parents and teachers and I have personally recommended her to parents and colleagues.

She has the knack of bringing an extremely positive response within the work of her pupils of all ages, abilities and needs and an incredible, exciting and steady improvement in both their confidence and ability.

Over the years, she has worked with many children to help them gain places in the schools of their choice.

Clearly a magical touch - undoubtedly the Midas touch!’’

‘We took our son Daniel to be assessed by Judi Ross when we first considered moving him from his state primary school to an independent school for 7+ entry. Her calm and child friendly approach was instantly appealing and Daniel was quite content to be left with Judi for that initial assessment in the charming studio in her garden. Knowing he was happy, and reassured by Judi that he had the ‘raw material’ with which she could work, we put our trust  in her to prepare him for the January entrance exams for the ‘Big 4’ – Habs, Highgate, Belmont and UCS. From the outset, Judi was firm but straightforward with us and with Daniel.

We appreciated her no-nonsense approach, yet at the same time she was gentle and warm, welcoming him each week, allowing him some ‘downtime’ before beginning his sessions. Daniel responded very well. Her sense of humour both relaxed him and brought out his confidence.

Our nerves far outweighed his at each entrance exam, but Judi had prepared him very well, not only for the academic demands, but also schooled him in interview technique. We were delighted therefore when Daniel was offered a place at Habs and has thrived very well in the environment; socially, emotionally and academically.

We would recommend Judi as a tutor without reservation.’’

My son Michael began lessons with Judi Ross when he was six years old. He is now ten and continues to see her on a regular basis.

We initially approached her because he was unable to read. He knew there were such things as letters and sentences but was unable to make any real sense of them and there was such confusion in his mind that he was unable to cope with learning anything new at school. He was put on the special needs register.

Judi effectively taught him from scratch. She took him back to basics and within a year not only was he able to read but his school work had improved tremendously. His self confidence also grew and he was subsequently taken off the special needs register.

He enjoys their sessions together, where Judi continues to work with him in all areas of his school work, building upon the solid ground work she provided for him. She has also taught him to touch type which has helped him so much with his spelling and written work.

He doesn't find school particularly easy but with the ongoing support from her, any problems or worries he has, can be discussed in the knowledge that she will always find a way of helping him understand and achieve, where parents and teachers have failed!

He has come a long way and is a much happier and confident boy. We are indebted to her.

Well each time his results have been improving with this last set achieving 2 A's and 5 B's in subjects such as physics! Who knew!

That he went to 'Aldenham' has more than a little to do with you and we will be forever grateful, so thank you as the school is somewhere where he has been able to thrive.  N.M.M

I have been a special needs teacher for over twelve years and during that time I have yet to come across the unique way which Judi Ross employs when both working with and teaching her young students.

It is not only imaginative but amusing and wholly engrossing. She seems to engage with her pupils in such a way that makes them want to work since it is so good humoured and full of fun.

Judi works from her studio and the atmosphere is delightful. Her studio, set in an oasis of flowers and tranquility, is full of exciting and innovative educational material.

I can thoroughly recommend this lady and only wish I  myself could have used her services for my own son who had dyslexia.

"With no experience and little knowledge of the private and selective secondary school entrance requirements, we approached Judi Ross for assistance.  From the outset, it was clear to us that Judi had a wealth of specialist experience in preparing children for both the entrance examinations and the transition as a whole. Our son found Judi's personalised teaching techniques fun and we quickly noticed how effective they were.  Judi provided weekly tuition for about a year leading up to the secondary school entrance exams.  Throughout this time we knew it was going to take disciplined hard work to reach the very high standard required to overcome the highly competitive process for entering the private education system midway through.  Our sole objective was for our son to be offered a place in at least one of our preferred schools.

For us the outcome was not only an offer from our first choice school, but to our great surprise, our son had been awarded an academic scholarship.  We are confident that it is in no small way due to Judi, that our son achieved so well.

Judi Ross taught one-to-one tutorials at our school to a variety of pupils with a range of needs. She is a caring,  enthusiastic teacher who brought lessons to life and made them understandable for children who might struggle to grasp the concepts within the classroom. Our pupils made exceptionable progress and thoroughly enjoyed their lessons, ultimately helping them to develop a love for learning, build confidence and to continue to progress.

Our pupils were able to go on to secondary schools including, Aldenham, Egerton-Rothesay and St Christophers, and I am confident that their sessions with Mrs Ross assisted them with their literacy and numeracy skills.

Yours sincerely,

Our daughter K, who is now 14 has been seeing Judi since she was 8 years old. She has some specific learning difficulties and when she began to attend sessions with Judi, as well as her specific difficulties, she was lacking in confidence.

Judi Ross has an ability to see the needs of each of the individual children that she works with and to tailor her work to the strengths and weaknesses of that child. Our experience of Judi is that she adjusts her teaching methods for the child with whom she is working, rather than expecting the child to fit in to a predetermined method

Judi has an extraordinary ability to find different ways of working with children. In our daughter’s case this has meant that she has empowered K to use her many strengths to overcome the things she finds difficult. Judi has helped K to find ways of learning which really work for her. So that K herself is now aware of how she best can learn and is also able to help herself in a way that was just not possible a few years ago.

When K began secondary school she thought that she would no longer need her sessions with Judi, but we have continued with these, because K has found that Judi continues to be able to assist her with challenging issues that arise.

Above all in her sessions with her pupils Judi seems to have the ability to create a special atmosphere of love and care tailored to each child’s needs so that her pupils really enjoy their time with her.

I guess you're my son's saviour.  I know that sounds a bit strong but you truly can't imagine the difference you've made to my son's life in such a short space of time and even if he doesn't become a rocket scientist, at the end of it all he'll be a more confident adult and that's got to be an achievement.
Bless you for being you.  Keep doing what you do.

Kind Regards

At first, I would like to say that Judi is the best teacher that I have ever met in my life. Since we initially met in 1996, she has been not only a teacher but also a best friend, a wise advisor of life and a great second mother to me.

We studied together for about four years when I lived in London. At the beginning, I had completely no knowledge of English. She had to help me from the first step. Her class was so much fun that I could not wait to see her twice a week. I was amused by her way of teaching. It was like magic, that I never got frustrated if I could not express what I wanted to say. She patiently tried to understand what I meant and at last, she taught me how I should say it in English. It was then that I learnt the joy of understanding without a common language. Judi mainly helped me with my conversation and grammar.  Because I was a student of JapaneseSchool in the beginning, I only had the chance of speaking English with Judi for three hours a week, yet after two years, I had no difficulty at all  in communicating with English people.

At the same time I succeeded in passing Cambridge First Certificate English test. There are many Japanese students who find it hard to write sentences in English. In my case, learning how to write compositions for the test was really useful.

I cannot forget to add how she contributed to my success in my entrance examination to Japanese high school. As a native speaker, she analyzed the Japanese English Test and  helped me prepare for it. She knew what I had to do and did her best for me so that I would succeed.

At last, I was successful in all the examinations for the  schools I applied to: (Keio Senior High School, Keio Shonan Fujisawa Senior High School, Waseda University Senior High School, International Christian University High School and more.) I would never have been able to grab such a success without her help.

After coming back to Japan, I have had no private teacher like Judi. In order not to forget my English, I still continue to study one hour's English conversation a week. Despite that, I still feel that my English continues to become better and better. This is because Judi helped me build a stable basis of English from the beginning. That is why I improved so much and so easily and why I have achieved a 900 score in TOEIC examination.

I am now a university student in Japan studying Economics. In my part time job, I teach English to the junior high school students. I am doing my best to show how learning English is fun, like Judi did for me.
